The kind of jobs nobody else will do
This is the bit of the trade I genuinely enjoy. Almost every Suffolk household has a list: the spare-room curtain pole that pulls out of the wall whenever you draw it, the radiator key you've never owned, the smoke alarm that's been chirping for a fortnight, the new mirror waiting in its packaging on the landing, the back door that catches in the autumn, the sock drawer with the broken runner. Most of these jobs take ten or twenty minutes each. None of them are worth a separate trade callout. Together they make a productive half-day for me and a much nicer house for you.
Typical odd jobs include: hanging mirrors and pictures (including heavy frames into solid walls and the right fixings for plasterboard), shelving, fitting curtain poles and tracks, installing roller and Venetian blinds, replacing toilet seats, fitting cat and dog flaps, swapping out internal door handles, easing sticking doors and windows, fixing door closers, hanging or rehanging internal doors, fitting draught excluders, swapping shower hoses, sorting wobbly toilet seats, refitting loose stair spindles, fitting loft hatches, tightening kitchen handles, replacing kitchen tap washers, and the great unspoken classic: putting the cordless drill back together for someone who can't quite face it.
How an odd-jobs visit usually goes
The simplest way to use me is to write down the list and email it through with rough photos. I'll come back with a half-day or full-day estimate and a date. On the day, I bring all the standard fixings, brackets and bits in the van; you provide anything specific you've already bought (the new blinds, the new mirror, the replacement toilet seat). We work down the list in the order that makes sense, and if we get to the end early I'll either knock the price down or ask if there's anything else you'd like done while I'm here.
It really is that informal. A good odd-jobs visit isn't about meters of paperwork — it's about getting twelve nagging things off your mental load in one go.
Renters, landlords and end-of-tenancy lists
I do quite a lot of work for Suffolk landlords and managing agents at change-over time, and for tenants who want to leave a property in good order to protect the deposit. Common end-of-tenancy work: filling and touching up small holes, refixing internal doors, replacing missing or broken blinds, adjusting radiator valves, sorting a bathroom seal, replacing a toilet seat, checking smoke and CO alarms, cleaning out the extractor and fitting fresh batteries. A morning of careful work often saves two or three weeks of deposit dispute. Honest pricing and no minimum-fee tricks
Some of the bigger national handyman firms charge a chunky callout fee even if the job takes ten minutes. I don't work that way. I quote you for the time I think the job will take, plus materials. If it goes faster, you pay less. If it's a one-line item like rehanging a single door, I'll only really make sense if you've got two or three other things bundled in — in which case I'll suggest exactly that, in writing, before driving over.

Is there a minimum charge?
I work in half-day and full-day blocks, which usually works out cheaper than a per-job callout once you've got two or three small things to do. A single 10-minute job on its own is rarely good value for either of us — bundle it with a couple more if you can.
Do I need to buy materials beforehand?
Only the specific items (the blind, the mirror, the door handle). I bring all standard fixings, brackets, screws, plugs and tools in the van.
Can you do jobs that need two trades, like an odd-jobs day plus an electrician?
